The JDS Alumni Association of Mongolia have made a donation through the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia to support victims of the earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture on January 1, 2024. The following is the interview with the representatives of the JDS Alumni Association of Mongolia.
-------- Why did you decide to make a donation?
The news that there were severely affected people by the earthquake was very sad for those of us who have studied in Japan and have ties with Japan, as we continue to consider Japan as our second home country.
Thanks to the Japanese people, we JDS Alumni, who received an international-level education in the developed country of Japan, always look back on the wonderful memories that happened in there and miss Japan.
It is a philosophy in Mongolia that we help each other in times of need. The JDS Alumni Association took the lead in organizing a fund-raising campaign in the hope of helping those were suffered from the earthquake.
-------- How did you get in touch with the members of the JDS Alumni Association?
We contacted the leaders of the JDS returned fellows in each arrival year and asked them to share the information with their batches. We also made a poster and asked our members to cooperate through social networks. As a result, we were able to collect donations of 6 million tugrik (approximately 270,000 Japanese yen) from 79 members in a short period of time, which were transferred to the donation account of the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia. We heard that the donations will be delivered by the Japanese government to the victims through local public organization.
